Are you looking to improve your site’s search engine ranking? One of the most important things you can do is submit a sitemap. In this article, we’ll show you how to submit a sitemap using Squarespace. We’ll also provide instructions for submitting a sitemap using Google Search Console. Let’s get started!
What is a Sitemap?
In a nutshell, a sitemap is a list that tells a search engine what pages are on the website. One of the reasons this is important is because it can help a search engine, such as Google, to crawl a website more effectively. Another benefit of using a sitemap is that your website’s pages might appear in the search results.
Having an updated sitemap also helps to inform search engines, like Google, that changes have been made to the website. It should be noted that it isn’t necessary to submit a sitemap if your website is less than 100 pages, at least according to Google, but it might be worth doing if you think your website doesn’t have the best structure.
Where Can You Find It?
Finding your Squarespace sitemap is one of the easiest things you can do. All you need to do is type the URL of your primary domain, and add /sitemap.xml to the end of that URL; https://examplewebsite.com/sitemap.xml.
The reason this is so easy is that Squarespace automatically generates an XML sitemap, which means there is no need to create your own.
How to Upload It
Now that you know how to find your sitemap, the next step is uploading it to Google. This is also quite easy to do, but first, you will need to create a Google Search Console account, which is free. Next, you will need to add your website as a property, and then follow these steps:
● Click on “Sitemaps”, which can be found on the left dashboard menu under the “Index” section.
● Then you will need to add sitemap.xml after the URL of your website, found in the “Add a new sitemap”
● Lastly, all you need to do is click submit
It’s important to keep in mind that Google won’t crawl your website as soon as the sitemap has been added, but the good news is that you can check when the site was last crawled. It is also a good idea to periodically check your site for broken links.
