When does a default analytics session expire?

Last updated: December 4, 2021

When a user opens another browser window

When a user is inactive on your website for more than 30 minutes

At noon every day

After 30 minutes, regardless of user activity on your website

All of these are incorrect except one: when a user is inactive on your website for more than 30 minutes.

By default, according to Google Analytics, the time it takes for a session to expire is 30 minutes, and the session is defined as the amount of time a user is active on a site. If any activity is made by the user within the 30-minute period then the session won’t expire, but if the user were to be active again after 30 minutes, then a new session will be created.
